Is a heated lid available for the Thermomixer comfort (e.g. for preventing the formation of condensation)?
No. To prevent drips and the formation of condensation, we recommend turning the tubes upside-down 2-3 times in the IsoRack with the Iso lid (manual vortexing).
Can 24-well cultivation plates be used in the Thermomixer comfort?
No. The MTP block is designed for the globally recognized standard microtiter plate with dimensions of 127 x 86 mm; the microtiter plates for cultures have larger dimensions (132 x 88 mm).
How safe is operation at 99 ¡ÆC?
We recommend using Eppendorf Safe-Lock tubes as the lid is guaranteed not to pop open at 99 ¡ÆC. If the tubes do pop open, the lid of the IsoRack catches any splashes.
Does the Thermomixer comfort have UV-stable housing?
Yes, to a certain extent. However, large doses of irradiation may lead to discoloration of the material (ABS-PC mixed polymerisate). The Thermomixer comfort is not suitable for regular irradiation under the UV lamp.
Can the Thermomixer comfort be connected to a PC?
The EDOS programming package (order no. 5221 000.236) is required for connecting the Thermomixer comfort to a PC. This programming package contains a data-transmission cable, programming instructions and a remote-control program
How is the temperature regulated with the Thermomixer comfort?
The heating platform of the Thermomixer comfort has a high-quality temperature sensor that is kept in metallic contact with the thermoblock.
What are the tolerances for the shaking frequency of the Thermomixer comfort?
Depending on the number of test tubes and on the filling volume of the individual tubes, a maximum tolerance of ¡¾ 20 revolutions may occur at a shaking frequency of 300 rpm. This decreases as the shaking frequency increases. This tolerance can be determined in the lab with the aid of a stroboscope. Plans have been made for a remote-control program to appear in the second half of 2000, with which it shall be possible to monitor the shaking frequency and the block temperature of the Thermomixer simultaneously, with the aid of an RS 232 interface.
Can I use the Thermomixer comfort to heat the samples in my microtiter plate to 99 ¡ÆC?
The MTP block of the Thermomixer is coded for a maximum temperature of 70 ¡ÆC. This temperature restriction exists because polystyrene MTPs become pliable at approximately 80 ¡ÆC.
